Charity Knitting

Knitting Guild of the Desert currently supports the following charity knitting programs:

Charity Squares

We donate knitted blocks from our Block of the Month Program to Caring About People, Palm Springs (CAPPS).

CAPPS assembles our squares into lap sized blankets and provides them to the Desert Regional Comprehensive Cancer Center in Palm Springs.

Eisenhower Birthing Center

We knit blankets for newborns!

Blankets can be knitted from any pattern using soft washable yarn. The preferred size is approximately 24 inches by 31 inches.

The blanket shown was knitted by member Karen Murray using a pretty self patterning yarn, Hayfield Baby Blossom Chunky.

Coachella Valley Rescue Mission

We knit soap sacks, hats , scarves, mittens, blankets for adults and children, and stuffed animals for the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission. Soap sacks should be knitted from 100% cotton. Hats, scarves, mittens, and blankets should be made of washable yarn. For pattern ideas Click Here! (link coming soon)

Knitted Knockers

Knitted knockers are special hand-knitted breast prostheses for women who ave had breast cancer and underwent mastectomy or lumpectomy. Traditional breast prosthetics can be hot, heavy and sticky. Knitted Knockers are soft, comfortable, and work beautifully with a regular bra.

Knitted Knockers are needed in all sizes and colors, but neutral is by far the most in demand, and matching pairs are also in demand.

Knockers must be made from soft, non-wool, washable yarn and filled with PolyFiberFil. For a list of approved yarns, Click Here!
